The village of Douliana is officially declared by the Greek Cultural Ministry as “traditional settlement of distinct natural beauty”
The population during winter is not more than 20 people, while during summer it goes around 40 (locals)
All of them are smiling, warm hearted people, without commercialized hospitality and faking attitude towards tourists.
The village is on a dead end . road does not pass through Douliana to somewhere else. This is an important element for your vacation decision.
This small village is literally a neighborhood by its own. Explore the alleys and the small forests around the village. Nights in Douliana are unique. Don’t be a tourist. Blend with the locals and enjoy some genuine rare moments of a culture that is fading away.
Getting around
Although build on a dead end, Douliana is hardly isolated. The Vamos and Kalives villages are within 8 min by car range. There is a constant bus connection with Chania-Rethimno-Heraclion. The blue flag beaches of Kalives and Almirida are in 3 km distance
For going to Heraclion you will need a taxi to drop you at the national highway. Heraclion-Chania busses are every half an hour.

Explore
Bank, Post Office, Health Center, Municipality buildings and facilities, Police, taverns, and many groceries, super markets, and local craft items can be found at the surrounding villages of Kalives, Vamos, Almyrida and Gavalohori.
In Douliana there is a cafenio, (coffee house) ,a mini market, and a tavern that is worth visit.

We do however advise you to be extra careful when biking in longer distances, visiting other villages etc.
